Why it helps
Grounding brings attention out of spiralling thoughts and back into the body and the present moment.
Three ways to ground
5-4-3-2-1. Name five things you can see, four you can touch, three you can hear, two you can smell and one you can taste.
Feet on the earth. Stand barefoot on grass, soil or sand for a few minutes. Feel the weight of your body moving down through your feet.
Roots visualisation. Sit with both feet flat on the floor. Imagine roots growing from the soles of your feet deep into the earth, anchoring you.
A gentle note
Grounding is a helpful daily practice. If anxiety or overwhelm are persistent or severe, please also reach out to a doctor or mental-health professional.
